Personal projects

Projects built out of curiosity, from real needs.

Outside client engagements, I build software that starts from a real problem. Self-hosting is often the starting point — but not necessarily the final destination.

Ongoing project

Forensix — The digital forensic chain, end to end.

Digital forensic expertise sets an unusually demanding standard: every single step must be provable, traceable and repeatable before a court. Forensix was designed around that constraint. It supports the expert across the whole chain — acquisition, investigation, reporting — from the acquisition of a sealed exhibit to the delivery of the report, never trading evidential rigour for convenience. Written in Python, with no cloud dependency: no data ever leaves the expert's workstation.

What Forensix does

  • Organises the case — case file, registration of sealed exhibits (Android/iOS phones, computers, connected devices and smartwatches…) with captioned photographs embedded in the report
  • Sorts automatically — extracted data is split into readable categories (messaging, images, videos, geolocation, health/activity, databases…), one directory per extraction method; the directory tree is fully configurable from a single configuration file
  • Guarantees integrity — SHA-256 hash of every file, a complete manifest, after-the-fact verification, and detection of files whose header does not match their extension
  • Produces the report — LaTeX then PDF generation from the expert's own templates: a consistent deliverable, reproducible identically
  • Logs everything — every command and every decision recorded in a tamper-evident timestamped log

Non-negotiable principles

  • No writes to the original exhibit — read only, copy only
  • No network access — data never leaves the expert's workstation
  • Mouse or command line — same functions, repeatable and scriptable
  • Build on what exists — drive the recognised tools of the field (ADB, iLEAPP/ALEAPP, PhotoRec, plaso…) rather than reinvent them

Currently in development

A local web interface (on 127.0.0.1, with no network exposure) to drive the whole chain with the mouse — case creation, sealed exhibits, photographs, sorting, reporting — together with the automatic triggering of extractions (the methods are already declared and logged; automated execution is the next increment).

Built to withstand challenge in court: nothing is written to the original exhibit, everything is traced, everything is reproducible.

Ongoing project

GameVault — Keeping track of a video game collection.

Purpose

GameVault is an application for cataloguing and managing a collection of physical and digital video games. It is aimed at collectors, regular players and multi-user households who want to keep track of their library.

The project is under development and currently hosted in-house.

Platforms

  • Web interface — responsive gallery, search and filters
  • Android application — barcode scanning, browsing and quick additions
  • Backend — secure REST API, local database
  • Docker Compose — straightforward deployment on a personal server

Ongoing project

GoSearchAndCopy — Finding the needle in the digital haystack, without bending it.

When a forensic engagement or an internal audit means digging through thousands of files — emails, PDFs, office documents, archives — the usual tools are often slow or, worse, alter the files along the way. GoSearchAndCopy takes another route: it scans, copies and reports, without ever touching the originals.

Approach

The tool walks a corpus of files in parallel, spots those that contain the search terms, then produces an isolated copy of them and a structured report. Every file kept comes with its hash, a snippet of context and its original location — enough to reconstruct the chain of custody, or simply to find the right document quickly.

Common formats are supported: PDF (including scanned documents, via OCR), emails in EML or MBOX format, Office documents, and even file names.

Why Go

  • Speed — native binary, simultaneous search across hundreds of files
  • Portability — a single executable, with no heavy dependencies to install
  • Reliability — a corrupted file does not stop the run; it is logged and the scan carries on
  • Traceability — CSV report with SHA-256 hashes, timestamps and excerpts, ready for a forensic case file

Who it is for

Designed first for professional use — court-ordered investigations, internal enquiries, compliance audits, data leak searches — GoSearchAndCopy is aimed at experts, CISOs and system administrators facing volumes that no human eye can handle alone. A Windows graphical interface is also available for non-technical users.

A working MVP, used in real conditions. Not public yet — access on request for the professionals concerned, via the contact page.

Exploratory project

Timestamped web evidence capture — Building a technical file that can actually be used.

Some online content changes fast: web pages, legal notices, visible items, redirects, technical resources or publication traces. This line of work aims to collect such material methodically, without replacing the legal framework of a formal record of findings (constat).

Approach

The idea is to produce a technical file of the material collected: pages visited, screen captures, network observations, an execution log, SHA-256 hashes and a summary of what was observed.

The aim is not to reach conclusions automatically, but to prepare a structured, reproducible and understandable basis for the professionals who will have to assess the material.

Timestamping

The evidential side would be built around qualified timestamping compliant with the eIDAS Regulation, applied to the hashes and manifests produced during collection.

The project remains exploratory, is not validated as a product, and is not publicly available.

Status

The subject is presented here as a direction of work, not as an operational service. In time, it could support a process framed by a legal practice or a judicial officer (commissaire de justice, the French bailiff), with a clear separation between the technical findings produced by the tool and the legal weight of the formal record drawn up by that officer.

What comes next

Other projects will be documented here over time.

This page is meant to grow. Other work — homelab tools, automations, technical experiments — will be presented here once it reaches a stable enough stage.
